Autumn is upon us! As summer fades away, so too do the resolutions of New Years Eve. Resolutions are often inspired during the stress free time of being on holidays and celebrating with friends. Some good food and a few drinks help with feeling good and positive. In that space we often recognise the things that aren’t serving us well. So as the trees start to shed their leaves, have you shed those few kilos or those extra items around the house or yard that are cluttering up space? These things may have been in your resolution! Autumn is a great time to assess your living and work environment and to reflect on your health during the past twelve months. Have you had the energy and state of mind that you need to sustain your life style? Do you have space for quiet time? Do you have space for recreational activities etc? Throughout the year you can accumulate quite a lot that you don’t really give much thought to. That can apply to you physically as much as your living and work spaces. How you maintain your home, your workspace, your car etc is a choice based on what you are happy with. Often though, health changes slowly accumulate as do things in your life that may cause stress without you consciously noticing it. You may end up in a situation that effectively slaps you in the face one day as you realize it’s got a bit out of hand and things are not quite as you d like them to be!! Run around the house and property and your work place and make a list of the things that you enjoy and anything that’s just taking up space or causing you grief. Make some choices on what stays or goes, then act on it! Take some time to review your health during the year.

  • Have your moods changed?
  • Has your weight increased or decreased?
  • Have your sleeping habits changed?
  • Have your eating habits or thirst changed?
  • Has there been a change in any cravings?
  • Has your libido changed?
  • Have bowel or urinary patterns changed?
  • How much exercise did you engage in?
  • Are you happy in your work?
  • Are you happy in you marriage or relationship?
  • Are your friendships serving you well?
  • Have you set a routine for your diet with limits on Alcohol and non essential foods?
  • Have you set enough time aside for those in your life that really matter?
  • Are you having fun?

Reviewing the status quo is an essential part of good health, happiness and longevity. The above points are a basic guide to your overall health trends and if any of these are a problem for you, then take action! By John Burchell – Integrative Health Practitioner @ The Medical Sanctuary
